Self-care helps you to create positive feelings and a healthy relationship with yourself. When you take the time to practice self-care you are reminding yourself that your needs are important in life.
We all get so busy that we can sometimes forget to stop and take time for ourselves and this can cause use to be stressed, fatigued, get sick, and put a strain on our relationship.
In as little as 10 minutes a day you can be sure that you are taking care of yourself. Here are some of my favorite self-care ideas you can try at home.
1. Write down all the things you are grateful for
Start taking some time to write down all the things that you are grateful for. It can even be be little things. It will make you feel more positive. Plus, what you focus on gets better, so lets focus on all the good.
2. Look through old family photos
It’s so fun to look through all our old family photos. It makes you feel good to remember all the great memories of your family and friends. You might even want to start a fun project like a photo book.
3. Watch a tv show that makes your laugh
Sometimes all we need is a good laugh to feel great. Take some time to watch your favorite funny movies or youtube videos that make you laugh. Laughter releases positive chemicals in your body that makes you feel less stressed and positive.
4. Put clean sheets on your bed
I love the feeling of getting into bed to crisp and clean sheets after the end of a long day. Take some time to wash your sheets and get them feeling nice and crisp so that you can look forward to crawling into bed at night.
5. Light yard work
Just getting outside and taking some time in your yard or garden can be important for your self-care. I love to go out and smell my roses and trim up my rose bushes and I don’t know why, but I always feel great afterward. So get outside and try it out for yourself.
7. Guided meditation
This can be a great way to get your body relaxed. We all have so much stress in our lives, this stress can be carried in our bodies.
I always know I need to do this when my neck muscles get tight and tense.
Taking time to relax our bodies and minds can do amazing things for our physical and mental health.
I normally use guided meditation videos on youtube or meditation apps on my phone. Even 5 minutes will be beneficial. You don’t have to do it for a long time to see benefits.
8. Watch the Birds Outside
Take sometime to just watch the birds. It seems like a odd thing to do for self care, but it really is relaxing and helps you to forget your problems for a bit and focus on the cute little birds.
9. Catch up With an Old Friend
Have an old friend that you just haven’t had time to talk to in awhile? Take some time to reach out to them reconnect.
10. Get up early and watch the sun rise
When’s the last time that you got up early and watched the sunrise? Take time for yourself, wake up early and find the best spot in your house to watch the sunrise.
There is something so peaceful about watching the sun come up when everything is still peaceful and calm around you.

11. Drink some hot tea or coffee
What is your favorite drink? I am obsessed with coffee! Take some time out of your day to make your favorite drink and just sit down and relax and really enjoy it.
12. Organize something you have been putting off
Have that pile of papers or drawer that you have been put off organizing.
This at first might seem like work more than self care, but after you get it done you will be able to relax and feel great. Plus, you won’t have to think about it anymore.
13. Do some stretching or yoga
This can help you physically and mentally. Stretching is great to help relax your muscles and it releases positive endorphins into your body to help you feel great!
14. Take a detox bath
Take some time for a detox bath. I love to use epsom salt and essential oils.
This is a great self care idea and it will help you to relax your body and mind and feel refreshed.
15. Learn or try something new
Has there always been something that you have wanted to learn? Make the time for yourself to learn it. It’s fun and exciting to learn something new.
16. Unplug for the day
Sometimes it can be nice and refreshing just to unplug and take some screen free time. Take a break from social media or electronics and it will clear your mind.
17. Turn up your favorite music
Find you favorite song or play list and listen to it at home. I know that my favorite songs make me feel so energized and I instantly start to feel more positive.
Take some time to minimize your home. Too much clutter in your living space can make your mind feel cluttered too.
Spend sometime cleaning and organizing your home and you will be amazed at how much more relaxed you will feel when you are done.
19. Get moving
Exercise is one of the best self-care routines that you can get started with. It makes your mind and body healthy and strong since it releases endorphins.
You can do this right from you home too. Watch free videos on youtube, use fitness apps, or stream online workouts.
20. Clear your schedule
When you have a ton of things to do your mind is thinking about everything that needs to get done. Give yourself and your mind a break by making a day where you don’t have anything scheduled and just go with the flow.
21. Give yourself time to relax
Set a certain time aside each day that is your time for self-care. A time where you don’t have anything going on and you can just relax and destress.
Even if it’s only 5 minutes a day, your body and mind will thank you. Set a recurring timer on your phone to remind you.
You are important and so is your self-care. So make sure that you remember to take the time care for yourself so that you can feel positive and strengthen your physical and mental health.
