The kitchen is one of the busiest and messiest places in the house. It’s also one of the hardest areas to keep clean!
It’s where we cook, eat and prepare food. That is why it’s important to keep it as clean and safe as possible.
Keeping your kitchen clean can be overwhelming.

How to keep your kitchen clean and safe
Here are the 10 kitchen cleaning tips to keep make cleaning your kitchen a breeze.
You will wonder why you haven’t been using them all your life!
1. Keep counters clear
Kitchen counters are easy to wipe down when they don’t have any clutter on them.
Make sure that you don’t get in the habit of leaving or storing stuff on your counters.
If you keep your counters clutter free then you can wipe them down more often.
It will be easier for you to clean them, and they will be bacteria free and safe for your family.
2. Clean while you wait
Instead of just waiting for your food to cook, use this time to clean. If you get in the habit of cleaning while you wait then you will always have a clean kitchen.
You are already in the kitchen anyways, so this is just making your time there more efficient.
Plus, you won’t have to come back later and clean everything up. It will just keep your kitchen cleaner and make your life easier.
3. Wipe out sink after washing dishes
This is one that I forget sometimes! Dirty food and bacteria gets into our sink. Even when we are washing our hands the germs go in our sink.
To keep our kitchen safe from bacteria we have to remember to clean out our kitchen sink.
Just because its where we wash our dishes doesn’t mean that its clean.
Get in the habit of using a sponge to scrub off your sink from top to bottom. Do this as often as possible.
This will leave it looking clean, and free of germs.
4. Clean as you go
Make cleaning your kitchen easier by cleaning as you go.
What does this mean? Well instead of cleaning the kitchen all at once, be cleaning up a little here and there all day.
Every time you walk in your kitchen see if you can pick something up and put it away.
If you make a mess for lunch, clean it up right away. Don’t set it aside and wait until later to clean it.
Cleaning as you go will help to keep your kitchen clean and also help to keep you from feeling overwhelmed by a really messy kitchen.
5. A place for everything
To keep your kitchen clean, you have to have a place to store everything that you need in your kitchen.
Not having places to store your kitchen stuff is what can make your kitchen hard to clean and look messy.
Take a day and make sure that everything in your kitchen has a place where it can be put away. If you don’t have a place for something, then make one.
This will help to keep your counters clean, so they can be easily wiped down, and your kitchen looking organized.
6. Don’t forget the garbage disposal
Many people forget to clean the garbage disposal. This can be a place where germs and bacteria love to hide. So make sure that you clean it as often as possible.
It’s also good to clean your garbage disposal so that it doesn’t start smelling. You don’t want your kitchen to smell bad!
Here is a hack to make cleaning your garbage disposal easy. First just sprinkle some baking soda down the disposal.
Then pour in some vinegar. You will hear it fizz up, and this means it’s doing it’s job of cleaning.
Let it sit for about 15 minutes and then rinse it out with hot water. Now your disposal is clean!
7. Have a schdule
Make a kitchen cleaning schedule to be sure your kitchen stays clean.
Let’s face it, we all get busy and sometimes just can’t find time to really clean our kitchens that way that they should be cleaned.
Make a schedule where you have specific days that you mop, or clean the fridge, or do a deep cleaning.
This will make sure that you are regularly getting all the cleaning done and that your kitchen looks amazing.
8. Clean out your fridge
This is something that most people hate doing. I know I hate it!
If we want a safe and clean kitchen then we must make sure that we are adding this important step to our kitchen cleaning schedule.
Your fridge is where you store your foods. Old food and grime can make this a perfect place for bacteria to grow.
We don’t want to store our food with dirty bacteria. Also, we want our fridge to look clean and organized.
Once a week, maybe on your shopping day, take everything out of your fridge.
Throw away any old and expired food and spray the entire inside with cleaner. You can use your favorite cleaner, or a vinegar and water mix.
Let the spray sit for a few minutes then wipe it all down and put everything away. This will also make sure that your fridge smells nice too.
9. Don’t forget dishwasher
We wash our dishes in the dishwasher, but did you know that you need to actually wash your dishwasher?
You should do this about once a month to keep it clean and bacteria free.
To do this you will first want to make sure that you clear the drain under the bottom dish rack. Make sure there is not food or anything stuck down there.
Then, once your dishwasher is empty and put a cup of vinegar in a dishwasher safe cup on the upper rack and run your dishwasher on the hot cycle. This will clean away the bacteria and odors.
Then you can get some baking soda and sprinkle it on the bottom of the dishwasher and run a short hot water cycle. Now it is clean and disinfected!
10. Get a good mop and broom
You might think that every mop and broom is the same, but the truth is that this is not the case. Some mops and brooms can make cleaning your kitchen harder than it needs to be.
I have had brooms that barley work and mops that just leave dirty streaks when I am trying to mop my floors.
Make sure that you find a nice wide angle broom and a dust pan with a rubber lip where you sweep the dirt in.
This will make sweeping, and getting the dirt into the dust pan easier and faster.
Also, opt for the old style mop heads versus the foam style. The foam style can just push dirt around your floors and leave streaks.
So find the old style where you put it in a bucket to ring it out. This makes mopping so much easier!
I hope that these tips help you to learn more about how to keep your kitchen clean and safe.
Start using them and adopt them into your daily routines to make sure that your kitchen always looks great and is as safe as possible.
