Start using some of these hacks and your home will be smelling amazing in no time!

1. Refresh carpets / rugs

Carpets and rugs are know for collecting dust, dirt, and odors. Vacuuming and cleaning carpets will help keep them looking nice, but not deodorized. 

If you want your house to smell good then you need to get rid of the bad smells in your rugs.

People with houses that smell good know that you should deodorized your carpets often. This is one of my favorite cleaning hacks.

Don’t worry about buying expensive carpet deodorizers.

You probably already have the thing that works best in your pantry, baking soda!

This is a cheap and natural way to deodorize your carpets. 

Just put some baking soda in a shaker, or just sprinkle it right out of the box straight onto your carpets.

Let it sit for as little as 15 minutes or as long as overnight and then just vacuum like normal. 

The reason that this works is that baking soda is a natural deodorizer and it neutralizes the odors in your carpet so that your house can smell nice and fresh. 

2. Odor Neutralizers

People that have great smelling homes also know that its important to neutralize any odors.

Get some odor neutralizers and put them anywhere in your house that might have bad smells. 

Places such as the kitchen, bathroom, and closets would be a great idea to start.

You can buy different types odor neutralizers such as activated charcoal bags, and odor neutralizing gel beads.

You don’t want to just mask odors with fresh scents.

To get your house smelling nice and fresh you have to eliminate odors first. So try it out!

3. Get rid of excess moisture

To keep your home smelling great you have to make sure that you don’t have excess moisture areas that will create a musty smell. 

Places such as basements, bathrooms, under sinks, and closets can are know for having excess moisture. 

Some of the best ways to keep moisture under control is to make sure all areas of your home have good air flow.

You might want to invest in a good fan or just open the windows on nice days. 

Also, you can use moisture absorbing bags to help absorb some extra moisture in these areas.

This will help keep the moisture under control and get rid of musty smells.  

4. Use dryer sheets

Did you know that dryer sheets aren’t just for the dryer? Dryer sheets are a great way to add a fresh smell to almost anywhere. 

You can put one in your car, or in areas of your home, like under your couch or closet and it will make your house smell fresh. 

This is a cheap and inexpensive hack. Plus, you probably already have some dryer sheets, so you won’t even have to make a trip to the store! 

5. Freshen air vents

People with fresh smelling homes know how important it is to freshen air vents. You want to keep the air that is coming into your house as clean as possible. 

Find where your air filter is and make sure that you replace it. If you keep it free of dust and debris it will be better for your health and smell better. 

You can even get scented air filters online. If you can’t find a scented air filter you can buy little vent clips that you can place on your filter to give it a nice clean scent. 

They are similar to the ones that you get for your car vents, they just make your whole house smell great. 

6. Get a good air filter

If you have never owned a great air filter then you don’t understand how important this is to keeping your home smelling fresh. 

A couple years ago I bought a standing dyson air filter for my kids allergies and while it worked great to help keep the air clean, I was most surprised by how much cleaner and fresher my homes smelled when it was running. 

Purchasing a air filter will be good for your health and your keep your home smelling naturally clean. 

7. Plants to clean the air

Did you know that there are actually plants that help to clean a purify your homes air.

NASA did a study and found that there are a ton of plants to help keep your homes air clean naturally.

8. Scented candles or essential oils

You never want to just uses these to cover up smells, but once your deodorize then you can use these to add some of your favorite scents to your home. 

Find some of your favorite candles and spread them around your house.

When you burn them they will make your home smell amazing. I always burn candles when I know someone is coming over! 

Also, essential oils are a popular and natural way to keep your home smelling fresh. You can defuse them into the air.

They are a great alternative if you are sensitive to candles. 

9. Clean your garbage disposal

People with fresh smelling homes know how important it is to clean their garbage disposals. When is the last time you cleaned yours? 

Cleaning your garbage disposal will help your kitchen smell amazing and it’s quick and easy to do. 

All you need to do it sprinkle half a cup of baking soda into the disposal and pour in some vinegar.

It will foam up, but this just means that it is working. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then rinse it out with hot water. 

10. Keep things that smell bad outside

Make sure that you take your trash out as often as possible. This will help to keep bad orders outside.

Also, if you have things that might smell bad such as dirty laundry, or stinky shoes, you might want to keep them in the garage or laundry room so that you are not brining these bad odors into your home. 

11. Let your home air out  

People with fresh smelling homes know how important is is to let your home air out.

Do this as much as possible when its a nice day just open all your doors and windows to let some fresh air inside.

This will help to get air flow through your house, circulate the air and you will have nice fresh natural air in your house.
